本講演では、グレン・アルブレヒトによって提唱された「ソラスタルジア」という概念を現象学的に分析します。この概念は、自らの生活環境に留まりながら、その環境が負の方向に変化することで生じる実存的苦悩を指します。本発表では、ソラスタルジアの逆説的性質を批判的に検討し、その射程、感覚的・認知的基盤、時間的次元に関する曖昧さを明らかにします。さらに、知覚に基づくソラスタルジア、認知に基づくソラスタルジア、両者の複合形態、そして現在・過去・未来の環境に向けられるソラスタルジアの区別を提示します。従来「在宅でのホームシック」と形容されてきたソラスタルジアを、私はむしろ「超越論的場所喪失」というより深い条件の徴候として捉えます。これは、居住と場所形成に不可欠な環境条件の劣化から生じる新たな実存的脱置の形態です。さらに、ルカーチの「超越論的故郷喪失」概念を参照しながら、ソラスタルジアを進化する超越論的場所論の脈絡に位置づけ、近代後期における開示的情動としての意義を論じます。最後に、この分析が環境危機に特徴づけられた現代の理解に与える含意を考察し、共生への可能性を慎重に展望します。

香港中文大学哲学科教授。専門は現象学と解釈学で、フッサール現象学の解釈学的展開、痛みの現象学、想像力の哲学、文化的脈絡における生世界の問題に関する研究で知られる。著書に

This lecture offers a phenomenological analysis of the concept of solastalgia, coined by Glenn Albrecht to describe the existential distress caused by negative environmental changes experienced while remaining in one’s home environment. The talk will critically examine the paradoxical nature of solastalgia, addressing ambiguities concerning its scope, sensory and cognitive foundations, and temporal dimensions. Distinctions will be drawn between perceptually based, cognitively based, and combined forms of solastalgia, as well as between solastalgia directed toward present, past, and future environments. Rather than describing solastalgia as “homesickness at home,” I will argue that it reveals a deeper condition of transcendental placelessness—a novel form of existential displacement arising from the degradation of environmental conditions necessary for place-making and habitation. Drawing on György Lukács’s concept of transcendental homelessness, I will situate solastalgia within the broader context of evolving transcendental topographies (or place-structures), highlighting its significance as a disclosive emotion of late modernity. Finally, I will reflect on the implications of this analysis for understanding our epoch characterized by environmental crisis, while cautiously recognizing the potential for a new epoch of ecological harmony, termed the Symbiocene.

Prof. Dr. Saulius Geniusas is Professor of Philosophy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on phenomenology and hermeneutics, with particular attention to Husserlian phenomenology, the phenomenology of pain, the philosophy of imagination, and issues concerning the life-world in cultural contexts. He is the author of
