講演内容
既存の説明では、こうした構造的側面のために、羞恥は個人の自由を制約する疎外的な経験になると捉えられることが多い。これに対して本講演は、羞恥をめぐる後期レヴィナスの著作に目を向けることにより、羞恥の経験には、他者を媒介とした独自の反照性ないし自己認識の形式が含まれており、しかもそれが真正な人間的自由の核心をなしていることを示す。
最終的に本講演は、他者についての原初的な経験として理解された羞恥は、個人の自由を損なうものではなく、むしろそれを高め、実現するものであると論じる。
講師紹介
蔡文菁氏は、現在、上海交通大学人文学院哲学系教授である。北京大学で心理学と哲学を学び、同大学大学院哲学系で修士号を取得したのち、2011年にコペンハーゲン大学にてダン・ザハヴィの指導のもとで博士号を取得し、反省概念を主題とする博士論文を執筆した。その後、フッサール、ハイデガー、レヴィナス、リクールの思想に加えて、現象学的方法、自己意識、自己と他者の関係について論文を公刊している。近年の研究では、他者を媒介とする自己関係の一形式に焦点を当てながら、自由と有限性についての現象学的説明を展開している。主要な論文は、Human
Studies, Husserl Studies, Journal of the British Society for
Phenomenology, Comparative and Continental Philosophyなどに掲載されている。

Abstract
Abstract
The paper challenges the prevailing view that shame is primarily a
heteronomous experience that undermines individual freedom and dignity.
Drawing on Sartre, Nussbaum and early Levinas, it first explicates the
dual constitutive dimensions of shame, namely, the indispensable
presence of the other and its structure as a mode of self-consciousness.
Existing accounts often view these structural dimensions as rendering
shame an alienating experience that constrains individual freedom.
However,
by turning to Levinas’ mature writings on shame, the paper shows that
the experience of shame entails a unique form of reflexivity or
self-awareness in the medium of the other, which lies at the heart of
authentic human freedom.
Ultimately, the paper argues that shame,
understood as a primordial experience of the other, does not diminish
but rather elevates and realizes one’s individual freedom.

Speaker Profile
Wenjing Cai is currently professor in the Department of Philosophy at
Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She received her PhD from the University
of Copenhagen under the supervision of Dan Zahavi and wrote her doctoral
thesis on the notion of reflection. She has since published on the
thoughts of Husserl, Heidegger, Levinas, and Ricoeur, as well as on
phenomenological method, self-consciousness, and the self–other
relation. Her recent research develops a phenomenological account of
freedom and finitude, focusing on a form of self-relation in the
mediation of the other.
