【現象学コロキウム】痛みと生世界——身体化と心理化——

現象学と解釈学の分野で精力的な研究を展開し、近年は痛みの現象学や環境的情動の問題に取り組んでいるサウリウス・ゲニウサス教授（Prof. Dr. Saulius Geniusas）を講師にお招きし、下記のとおり講演会を開催します。

講演内容

本講演では、心理的苦痛が身体的な痛みとして現れる「身体化」と、痛みが心理的苦悩として再構成される「心理化」という二つの過程を手がかりに、痛みの経験における身体的次元と心理的次元の複雑な相互作用を検討します。さらに、痛みは生理学的・心理学的現象にとどまらず、社会文化的・歴史的文脈において形成される現象であることを示します。そのうえで、痛みの主体は脳ではなく、生世界に生きる人格であるという立場を擁護します。

講師紹介

サウリウス・ゲニウサス教授（Prof. Dr. Saulius Geniusas）
香港中文大学哲学科教授。専門は現象学と解釈学で、フッサール現象学の解釈学的展開、痛みの現象学、想像力の哲学、文化的脈絡における生世界の問題に関する研究で知られる。著書に
　The Phenomenology of Pain (Ohio University Press, 2020)、
　Phenomenology of Productive Imagination (Ibidem Press, 2022)、
　The Origins of the Horizon in Husserl’s Phenomenology (Springer, 2012)
などがある。
The Phenomenology of Pain はエドワード・G・バラード賞およびヘルメス賞を受賞。ハンブルト研究フェローシップ、CUHK研究優秀賞など多数の受賞歴を持つ。

Professor Saulius Geniusas (Department of Philosophy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong), a leading scholar in phenomenology and hermeneutics whose recent work focuses on the phenomenology of pain and environmental affectivity, will deliver the following lecture:

Abstract

This lecture will unpack two processes: somatization, where psychological distress manifests as physical pain, and psychologization, where pain is reframed as psychological suffering. By analyzing these processes, I will address the intricate interplay between somatic and psychological dimensions in pain experience. Furthermore, I will argue that pain is not merely a physiological and psychological phenomenon but also a socio-cultural and historical one, shaped by the individual’s context and interactions within their life-world. Against this background, I will maintain that the subject of pain is not the brain but the person in the life-world.

Speaker Profile

Prof. Dr. Saulius Geniusas is Professor of Philosophy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on phenomenology and hermeneutics, with particular attention to Husserlian phenomenology, the phenomenology of pain, the philosophy of imagination, and issues concerning the life-world in cultural contexts. He is the author of
　The Phenomenology of Pain (Ohio University Press, 2020),
　Phenomenology of Productive Imagination (Ibidem Press, 2022),
　The Origins of the Horizon in Husserl’s Phenomenology (Springer, 2012)
among others. The Phenomenology of Pain received the Edward G. Ballard Prize and the Hermes Award. He has held a Humboldt Research Fellowship and received numerous honors, including the CUHK Research Excellence Award.
